Hopetoun

An eager boy waiting for bait so he can start fishing in the river.

We were amazed at how low the river was since the last time we were there and the dead tree’s about after the hot scorcher they had only a few weeks back.  It must have been real hot as birds were dropping like flies and its sad to see these big trees with dead crunchy leaves which fell all over the ground with each gust of wind.

Hopetoun is our little get away as we always went there when we were kids also and the caravan park is nestled right on the beach just about and you can’t get better than that.

We also took the kids fishing off the jetty, trying to catch a fish or two… or in our case none, ziltch, notta thing  (Think we fed them up well though).  But the sunsets over the water was the highlight of the evening.

Top five for The Family Farm!

Whilst on holidays I spotted this in the local paper and couldn’t believe it.  Talk about a surprise!  I feel very special to be sitting in 5th spot for the week.

Little gilgies

We went out on Saturday for a swim and a small feed of gilgies..(or yabbies).  We have always called them gilgies.  These were a bit dirty and not overly huge but tasted great none the less.  I love the claw meat, its just a bit more juicy and with a good homemade sauce, even better.  We sat and peeled them out from their shells whilst watching a lightning storm pass over our heads in the heat.  The lightning was amazing to watch but we were also on fire alert.

Fruits

This is just a small sample of the fruit collected from one of my trees. The taste of fruit straight off the tree is so jucy and delicious…I swear you’d never buy rock hard fruit from the shop again. These are a cross between a nectarine and a peach. Mouth watering! We’ve been drying some and making this lot into roll-ups for the kids. Healthy snacks.
