RuRo Roadtrip with Rachael Johns

Monday, 06 October 2014 by

It was an Author Talk tour of epic proportions. One blue Holden Commodore with a trailer full of books travelling over 2,400 kilometres across the state of WA. Inside this tardis like vehicle were authors Fiona Palmer (driver) and Rachael Johns (navigator – with the help of WhereIs and our Wog Boy guide). We set off in September to Albany for a talk at the library and were interviewed by famous local Jon Doust. It was a belly laugh talk with Jon digging deep and asking the tricky questions.         Then we headed to Kojonup, Rach’s old stomping ground and first country home, also where Jilted was set. It was our first night of talking together, sharing our journeys to publication and the stories behind our new books.       Next, we travelled to Busselton for a lunchtime library talk, catching up with the Dymocks girls. And Karen, from the Library,

Rachael Johns – Guest Blog

I met Rachael Johns years ago through the Romance Writers of Australia and have since loved watching her career grow as a writer. We are both WA girls living out in our small communities and we have both managed local grocery shops. So it’s no wonder we get on so well. Rach and I did a talk together last year after the Dowerin Field days. I got to drive through her small town of Goomalling and see her shop. It made me think about the places we live and for us rural authors, the small towns we write about. I asked Rach to write about her home town and because I enjoyed reading her blog I’m thinking of starting a blog series on Writers and their Whereabouts. Rach writes about country characters and rural towns so beautifully and it’s no wonder when you see where she lives. Thanks for stopping by Rach!   My Life

Romance in the Avon Valley

Thursday, 20 September 2012 by

A few weeks back, okay nearly three, Rachael Johns and I were at an event called Romance in the Avon Valley which was organised by Barbara at Dymocks in the Hay Street Mall, Perth. We had just spend a few days at the Dowerin Field Days selling our books and so it fitted in perfectly to attend this event at the gorgeous historic Tipperary Church near York. On my way towards York I drove through Rach’s hometown of Goomalling, I got to see her IGA shop and meet the family before she jumped in my car and together we went to York. The trip was not long enough as I’m sure we could have talked for hours. (Actually Rach had almost lost her voice after talking to hundreds of people at Dowerin-but we still managed lol) The event stated at 11am and I was surprised to see three Penguin reps who had travelled from the

RWA Conference 2012

Thursday, 23 August 2012 by

I should have called this blog ‘Name dropping’ because I will be doing a lot of it. But it’s hard not to when I spent the whole RWA conference going ‘OMG thats so and so’ and running around getting books signed by these authors. Lets start at the beginning. We flew over to the Gold Coast with my family for a few fun filled days before the conference. Yes, we went to Wet’n’Wild and we went on the ‘wanted to scream my head off but was too scared’ ride first. Had the best day with the kids up and down the rides all day. (Gave my legs & butt a fab workout!)  Perfect weather, hardly anyone around and no mobile phones AKA no work! Bliss. We also went to Seaworld and spent a day walking around Surfers Paradise. Hubby had the kids entertained while I was at the conference. I think they spent every moment

Events coming up…

I haven’t been blogging much lately as I’ve been rather busy.  With winter sports on I feel like I spend most of my time in our car, driving 60km to town so son can play auskick one day and then another trip for our hockey training. Then come weekend its off to which ever town we are playing, this weekend it’s against Bruce Rock which is just over an hour and a half trip to get there. I don’t add up my time spent in our car….I think the total would scare me!! And in the country it’s not just me doing it, everyone travels.   I do have some guest blogs coming up with new rural authors Barbara Hannay and Jennifer Scoullar, also Helene Young with her thrid book Burning Lies. Will be great to hear more from these wonderful ladies.   Now some details on where I will be in July. For

Rachael Johns – Guest blog

Friday, 08 June 2012 by

I would like to introduce you to a great friend of mine, Rachael Johns. I met Rach many years back in Perth. My first book had been published by Penguin so the year was 2009 and we were both at the RWA WA road show. I was new and Rach was just one of many friendly welcoming faces and finding out she was a fellow country WA girl, was even better. We actually lived closer before she moved out to Goomalling to run a supermarket store with her lovely family.  Let’s find out a little more about Rach. Hi Rach, thanks for stopping by.  Let’s start with the exciting stuff. Your new single title is out soon, please tell us when it’s out and what it’s all about?   JILTED released 1st of June and it’s about long-lost lovers reunited. Of course true love never runs smoothly and all those clichés, so there’s a lot
